NHRA NEWS: LE Tonglet keeps No. 1 starting position for Spring Nationals

LE Tonglet keeps No. 1 starting position for Spring Nationals

LE Tonglet turned  in two more solid qualifying runs on Saturday and no one bettered his quickest Pro Stock Motorcycle run of 6.849 seconds at 195.45 mph, so he starts Sunday’s Spring Nationals eliminations from the number one position at Royal Purple Raceway.

It is the second time he has led the 16-motorcycle field in his 23-race Full Throttle Drag Racing Series career, and it comes at his home track.

Tonglet drove the Nitro Fish Suzuki GSXR to quarter-mile times of 6.956 seconds at 189.90 and 6.948 at 193.43 on Saturday in more humid, warmer weather conditions.  He races Steve Johnson (16th, 7.041 at 191.38) in the opening round.

“Qualifying ended on a high note when we stayed number one,” said Tonglet.  “It felt good to have a performance like that at our home track.  Conditions were a lot different than Friday.  I’m glad we were able to capitalize on that, because it was really hot and humid Saturday.

“We had a bunch of people hanging around our pit area, and we’re expecting more on Sunday.  We’re hoping to have a long day.”
