Torrence seeking better results at this SummitRacing.com Nationals

Like the vast majority of people who come to Las Vegas, Steve Torrence felt he could have done better last April when he visited the city on his birthday weekend.

Torrence wasn’t there solely to celebrate getting another year older.  The driver of the Capco Racing/Tuttle Motorsports team was in the city to race in the SummitRacing.com Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

“That was a bad time,” Torrence said as he reflected on not qualifying for the race.  “That was the first time I didn’t qualify for any race in my driving career.  It was like April Fools’ Day and someone was playing a joke on our team.  But that was last year . . . and I have definitely put that experience out of my head.”

For the record, Torrence did qualify well and advance to the quarterfinals in his return to Las Vegas for last season’s second stop at The Strip.  And now he is preparing to revisit for the 12th edition of the SummitRacing.com Nationals, Friday through Sunday.

“I enjoyed the extra week we had off after the Gainesville race, but now I am ready to get back in the car again and get after it,” he said.  “Our car has been running well, but we need to work on its consistency.  We are eighth in points (87) and we need to win some rounds on Sunday so we can move closer to the cars in front of us.

“I think we proved that we are capable of running well, and that we can race our own race.  We want to do better . . . and there’s not a better place to start than Las Vegas.”

Torrence, who placed eighth in the 2010 Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, and the team are out to improve that finish by the time the 22-race season winds up in November.
