Torrence posts fifth-quickest TF time at Gators

Steve Torrence’s solid 1,000-foot run Friday afternoon at Gainesville Raceway lifted him into the No. 5 Top Fuel spot going into Saturday’s final day of qualifying for Sunday’s Tire Kingdom Nationals.

His Capco Racing/Tuttle Motorsports dragster stopped the timer in 3.860 seconds at 313.80 mph.  Torrence had to abort his first run and coasted through at 4.869 at 148.821 mph.

“We came back after a slow start,” Torrence said.  “That was a good second run.  I’m real pleased with it.  We’re going into Saturday’s (last two runs) trying to maintain our position in the top eight going into eliminations.”
