LE Tonglet nominated for Speed Channel’s Performer of Year
RACER Magazine Rookie of Year award.

Tonglet is one of 18 drivers from 10 different disciplines nominated for the prestigious Speed Performer of the Year award and the Mario Andretti Trophy. He also is a contender for Speed Channel’s RACER Magazine Rookie of the Year honors, one of nine additional awards that are chosen by fan voting at SPEED Balloting continues through Dec. 19.
Tonglet, 20, became NHRA’s youngest series champion by dominating the six-race Countdown to the Championship, winning four times in five final rounds. Overall, he won five of his seven title-round appearances.
Other Rookie of the Year nominees are Ben Spies (MotoGP), Simona DeSilvestro (IndyCar), Kamui Kobayashi (F1) and Ryan Dungey (AMA Supercross).
Top Fuel driver Larry Dixon and Funny Car driver John Force
were among the Speed Performer of the Year nominees representing both
four-wheel and two-wheel efforts across the globe. The Mario Andretti Trophy goes to the racer who
puts a premium on winning races, shines on his/her sport’s biggest stages and
does it all with a measure of sportsmanship and class. Top Fuel driver Tony Schumacher was last
year’s recipient.
